Woman arrested following collision at Newtownards play park

A woman has been arrested following a crash at a children’s play park in Newtownards.

Police said the incident at the park in Abbot Gardens happened at around 12.20pm on Sunday.

They said the car was being driven in the area before colliding with a wall and a fence within the play park.

No one was injured as a result of the incident, with police now conducting an investigation.

PSNI Inspector Jonny Hart said: “The female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit and dangerous driving.

“She remains in custody at this time. We would like to thank the community for their cooperation, as police carry out enquiries in the local area.

“Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 814 24/10/21.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are probing an assault against a man in Newcastle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Main Street.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “At approximately 02:20 hours on Sunday 24 October 2021, a male was assaulted on Main Street, Newcastle, opposite Quinns bar.

“If you witnessed this incident, please make contact with police in Downpatrick on 101 and quote reference number 244 of 24/10/21.”
