A woman has been left badly shaken after her Dundonald home was invaded by a gang of masked men armed with hammers.

One man (40) was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to commit unlawful damage following the incident.

He has since been released on bail, pending further police enquiries.

The incident occurred in the Craignish Crescent area on Saturday night.

Police received a report at around 9pm that several masked men had entered the property.

It’s reported that hammers were used to smash windows and items of furniture.

Detective Sergeant Crothers said that a woman was home at the time and, while physically uninjured, has been left "badly shaken by the ordeal".

“Our investigation is continuing and we are appealing to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 2001 of 10/08/19," he said.

"Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
