A 27-year-old woman arrested in connection with a stabbing in Newry on Sunday has been released on bail.

The PSNI said she had been freed on police bail yesterday, pending further enquiries.

A man was injured during the incident in the Sandys Street area of the city in the early hours of Sunday.

He was initially taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry and was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Last night, he was described as being in a stable condition.

PSNI Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said on Sunday: "Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident in the Sandys Street area of Newry in the early hours of Sunday morning. She is currently in police custody."

SDLP Assemblyman Dominic Bradley said he hoped the victim makes a full recovery.
