Woman breached bail and attacked police officer

A woman with 110 convictions who jumped over a garden wall to hide from police has been jailed for breaching her bail and headbutting a police officer.

Rachel Morrow (25) appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court yesterday after being arrested for breaching her bail on February 23.

The court was told that G4S alerted police that Morrow had breached her bail by not being at her approved address.

Police attended and observed the defendant jump over a garden wall in an attempt to hide from police.

When they approached, they found Morrow, of Rathbeg Crescent in Limavady, to be heavily intoxicated, and she was arrested.

She then became aggressive and abusive and tried to headbutt one officer, striking him on the shoulder.

When she was brought into custody a search was conducted and a quantity of Class B drugs was found on her.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that Morrow was currently on bail pending an appeal of another prison sentence and that she had “got herself into more trouble”.

He said she had had “far too much to drink” and realised there was no other option but custody.

Deputy District Judge Peter King said that Morrow had 110 previous convictions and added that “custody was not only inevitable but entirely proper”.

Morrow was sentenced to three months in prison.
