A woman managed to escape an attempted hijacking by four men in west Belfast.

The incident happened at around 12.40am on Thursday when the women pulled up at a cash machine at a petrol station on the Stewartstown Road.

For men approached her silver Ford Focus and tried to get into the car, ordering the women and a passenger to get out.

The woman managed to drive off and, while physically uninjured, she was left shaken.

The four men are described as being in their 20s, with one described as being tall and slim, wearing a dark t-shirt. Another was wearing a white baseball cap and white t-shirt, while another was wearing a grey tracksuit.

PSNI Sergeant Conlan said: “I am appealing to anyone with information, or who may have been in the area around that time, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 131 of 01/08/19.

“Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
