Police have launched an investigation after a 51-year-old woman was found with serious head injuries.
The woman — who was in a critical condition last night — was found in the Margaretta Crescent area of Dunmurry.
She was taken to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.
The woman, named locally as Noleen Finnegan, is believed to have lived alone in an upstairs flat in Margaretta Crescent.
Sinn Fein councillor Angela Nelson, who was at the scene where the injured woman was found, said police cordoned off Margaretta Crescent — a cul-de-sac — from Stewartstown Road as they conducted inquiries.
She told the Belfast Telegraph: “The police cordoned off the street for about an hour-and-a-half while they spoke to neighbours.”
The PSNI has appealed for anyone with information to contact Lisburn police station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
