A woman arrested in connection to the murder of 28-year-old man Edward Gibson in west Belfast last October has been released pending a report to prosecutors, police said last night.

Detectives had originally arrested the 56-year-old in Belfast earlier yesterday.

In the Republic, Gardai arrested a 47-year-old man in Donegal in relation to the same murder. He was being questioned at Ballyshannon station last night.

Father-of-one Mr Gibson died after being shot last October 24 in an alleyway off Clonfadden Crescent in the Divis area.

Earlier this week, Malachy Goodman (58), of Rockmore Road in Belfast, appeared at the city’s Magistrates Court for a preliminary hearing. He will stand trial for the murder at Belfast Crown Court but was released on bail until an arraignment.

The officer leading the PSNI investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway, said: “Our inquiries have led us to the Republic, and we are working closely with colleagues in An Garda Siochana.

“I would continue to appeal to anyone with information about Mr Gibson’s murder to come forward to police.”
