Woman hit in Joy Street

A woman was struck on the head by a teenager as she walked along a south Belfast street in broad daylight.

She was attacked from behind at around 3.30pm on Monday, January 18 in the Joy Street area.

It’s believed her male assailant was attempting to steal a handbag and laptop which she was carrying over her shoulder.

However she managed to hold on to her property and received a punch to the head.

Police said the woman was very shaken and was taken to hospital.

The male attacker then made off along Joy Street towards the old Gasworks.

He’s described as being in his late teens, approximately five feet three/four inches tall and was dressed completely in black.
