The son of a Co Down woman who was critically injured in an early morning crash said her condition is improving.

Debbie Faulkner, who is understood to be 43 and originally from Belfast but living in the Dromore area, was in a one-vehicle collision on the A1 dual carriageway between Hillsborough and Dromore on Sunday. It is understood it happened at around 3.40am.

Ms Faulkner was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital and a spokeswoman for the Belfast Health Trust said she remained in a critical condition last night.

Her son Ethan confirmed her condition on social media, writing: "She is still critical but she will be fine for now."

Other Facebook users rallied behind the teenager wishing his mother well. One woman wrote: "Debbie Faulkner, get that fighting power going and get yourself back on your feet for your wee son."
