Woman in west Belfast knife-point car-jacking

By Deborah McAleese

A suspected hijacker has been arrested by police after a female motorist was attacked at knife-point during a terrifying incident in west Belfast.

Police said the woman was left badly shaken after a man threatened her with the knife and hijacked her red Audi shortly before 9pm on Friday in the New Barnsley Park area. It is believed this is the 12th car-jacking in the greater Belfast area so far this year.

The car was discovered a short time later abandoned at the La Salle Drive area.

Detectives investigating the attack arrested a 33 year-old man in the south Belfast area on Saturday night.

He was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including hijacking, kidnapping, false imprisonment and aggravated vehicle taking.
