A woman has been assaulted by a bogus caller who then ransacked her house.

The aggravated burglary happened in the Ballaghbeg area of Andersonstown, west Belfast, yesterday.

Police received a report shortly before 9am that a man had called to a house claiming to be from the 'Water Board'. He pushed in past the woman, assaulted her and demanded money.

He then ransacked some areas of the house but made off from the scene empty-handed.

The attacker was seen to run off in the direction of the Glen Road.

The woman was treated for her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives in Woodbourne are appealing for information from witnesses on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
