A woman was assaulted in Newtownabbey after stopping her car to give assistance to two men she believed needed help.

While driving in Derrycoole Way at around 9.30am yesterday, the woman, who is aged in her 40s, saw a man lying in the road, with another man appearing to be administering aid.

But when she stopped and got out of her car to help when she was grabbed from behind and threatened by a third man, police said.

A PSNI spokesman said: “The victim managed to get back into her car and began to drive off when the trio attacked her vehicle, with one of the assailants smashing the driver’s side window with a brick.

“One of the males is described as wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood up while a second was described as having short, shaved dark hair.

“This was obviously a terrifying ordeal for the victim who has been left badly shaken.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or captured dash-cam footage, or anyone who knows anything to contact police immediately.”
