Woman is held by police over assault in north Belfast

A man, 22, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack which left a 25-year-old fighting for his life in north Belfast on Friday night.

The victim is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted by a group of men in the Limestone Road area, close to Mileriver Street.

A 21-year-old woman detained on Saturday evening over the incident has since been released on police bail, as has a 21-year-old male who had been arrested on Sunday.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Melanie McGrory said: "It is believed that he may have been assaulted by three or four other males.

"Police do not believe the attack was sectarian."

The PSNI appealed for anyone with information to contact Antrim Road PSNI station.
