Woman is held over 1994 UVF slaying

By Chris Kilpatrick

A woman has been arrested by detectives investigating a loyalist murder in north Belfast 20 years ago.

Sean McParland was babysitting when shot in Skegoniel Avenue on February 17, 1994.

The 55-year-old father-of-four died a week later.

Yesterday a 41-year-old woman was arrested by officers from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch.

She was taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Police said the arrest was part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.

A number of people have been questioned in recent months about the murder of Mr McParland.

Earlier this year police said the prominent loyalist Mark Haddock would be reported for prosecution over the murders of Mr McParland, and of Gary Convie and Eamon Fox in May 1994.

They were shot while sitting in a car at a building site in North Queen Street.
