The car in which a woman was killed in County Antrim

A 26-year-old woman has died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash on the Rushpark roundabout at Whiteabbey on the outskirts of north Belfast.

Five people — four women and a man — were hurt in the crash and taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital and Antrim Area Hospital. The injured man was said to be in a critical condition last night.

Three of the women were described as being in a stable condition, while one was described as serious.

None of their injuries was said to be life-threatening.

The dead woman — Rebecca McManus from nearby Rathfern — was a passenger in a green Ford Focus that was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Zafira at the Shore Road exit of the roundabout shortly before 1pm yesterday.

Police and emergency services attended the accident and the scene was closed off to motorists.

Newtownabbey councillor Tom Campbell expressed his sympathy to the victim’s family, saying he was “shocked and saddened to hear of the death”.
