A woman has been killed in a car crash in Co Londonderry.

The collision, between a red Peugeot 107 and a white Nissan Qashqai, happened on the Magherafelt Road between Magherafelt and Moneymore shortly before 9am on Tuesday morning.

Another female injured during the incident has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road has been between its junctions with the Gortagilly Road and Carmean Road.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative main routes for their journey.

Officers investigating this incident are keen to hear from witnesses and can be contacted at the Collision Investigation Unit by calling the non-emergency number 101.
