Woman killed in house blaze tragedy is named
A woman who died in a house fire on Saturday has been named locally as Sharon Bowes.
The 52-year-old victim lived on Middle Road, Islandmagee, Co Antrim.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been officially established, and inquiries are continuing.
Alliance councillor John Mathews told the Belfast Telegraph the victim was a friend of his family.
“It seems a log fell out of the fire while she was sleeping, so this was a tragic accident.
“Her little dog also died,” Mr Mathews said.
It is not yet known whether smoke alarms were in operation at the property. Mr Mathews offered his condolences to the woman’s devastated family.
She is survived by three adult children and her husband.
Councillor Stewart Dickson said his thoughts and sympathies were also with the dead woman’s family “at what must be a hard time for them”.
