A pedestrian has died in a road accident in Co Down.
A man, aged 26, was arrested after the accident involving a vehicle on the Rowreagh Road near Kircubbin at 3am on Sunday morning. He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The woman pedestrian was killed. She has been named by police as 26-year-old Danielle McKenna, from the Portaferry area.
The Rowreagh Road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Police appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
Alliance Party MLA Kieran McCarthy said: "The local community is in shock at the death of this young woman. I am extremely saddened by this tragedy.
"Another life has been needlessly lost on our roads. It is a reminder of the dangers for all road users.
"I would urge everybody to take care on our roads and to be vigilant of others. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to her parents as well as her young son."
