Woman raped in early morning attack

A young woman has been raped during a serious sexual assault in Armagh.

The attack happened in the Cathedral Road area early on Sunday, police said.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "It is believed that at approximately 3am, a young woman was assaulted by an unknown male, described as being approximately 5'9" to 6' tall, medium build, with dark hair with a fringe.

"He was wearing a grey zip up jacket, jeans and he had a black scarf pulled up over his face. He also smelt of cigarette smoke."

She appealed for anybody with information to contact police.
