Woman taken to hospital after M2 crash in Northern Ireland

By Cate McCurry

A woman was rushed to hospital following a serious early morning car crash on the M2 yesterday.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene where they discovered the vehicle wrapped round a tree. Firefighters used cutting equipment to gain access to the interior of the silver Honda car which was facing the opposite direction to which it had been travelling.

It's understood the woman was treated for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for the NI Ambulance Service said: "The Ambulance Service was called at 9.31am following reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision.

"Following assessment and treatment at the scene, one patient was transported to Antrim Area Hospital."

The collision caused long delays in the area, although all lanes were later reopened.
