Woman who stole from graves loses appeal
A Bangor woman who stole flowers and ornaments from a cemetery has lost her appeal to have her prison sentence overturned.
Carol Ann McKnight (48) was sentenced to six months in prison in January after admitting to 16 charges of theft from graves including those of recently deceased children.
During her initial court hearing it was learned McKnight, described as virtually friendless and the sole carer to her 79 year old mother, kept the stolen goods in the back garden of her home.
Rejecting McKnight’s appeal at Ards Magistrates’ Court this week the judge said her crimes had caused “grief and upset resulting in 50 calls to the police” and that she “only became a suspect through happenstance”.
