Woman’s marathon run in memory of sister

A south Belfast woman has raised £8,500 for a local cancer charity after running the London marathon in memory of her younger sister who lost her battle with the disease.

Selina Myles completed the 26 mile run for Friends of the Cancer Centre in memory of Stacey, who lost her battle with cancer in 2008.

Selina and her family wanted to say thank you to all the staff at the centre on the Lisburn Road for the care they showed to Stacey.

Colleen Shaw, fundraising manager for the centre, accepted the donation on behalf of ‘Friends’.

Colleen said: “When Selina approached our hospital charity a few months ago to raise funds in memory of Stacey she hoped to raise £1,000.

“I am so delighted that she raised so much in Stacey’s memory.

“Friends is placed right in the heart of the cancer centre and, with the support of people like Selina, can make a real and meaningful difference to the patients and their families who attend the cancer centre.”
