Women assaulted in west Belfast hijacking

Two women have been assaulted before they were ordered out of their car by four men in a hijacking in west Belfast.

Detectives are appealing for information following the incident in the McDonnell Street area during the early hours of Friday 24 April.

Shortly after 1.30am it was reported that two women, aged in their 50s, were sitting in a car on the street when they were approached by four men.

The men opened the doors of the car and assaulted the females before ordering them out of the car.

The group then drove off in the car in the direction of Cullingtree Road.

The silver coloured Vauxhall Astra was recovered later in the Quadrant Place, area of the City. The women sustained minor injuries and were left badly shaken by their ordeal.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Reid is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information about the movements of the Vauxhall Astra car to contact Detectives in Reactive and Organised Crime Belfast at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
