Women's Aid in festive food donation plea

By Staff Reporter

A special appeal for food donations has been made ahead of Christmas for people who have fled their homes in Londonderry due to domestic violence.

Foyle Women's Aid says many families in the north west are experiencing food and fuel poverty in the run-up to Christmas.

"Families, who have already suffered at the hands of an abuser, now have to face the added burden of relying on food banks and charity shops to make ends meet," a spokesperson said.

This year the organisation, which supports in excess of 600 women a year, is making a special appeal for food for Christmas dinner hampers to help families in their refuge accommodation and the wider community.

"We are hoping that this year again, people will respond and help us to make Christmas special for families who, in some cases, have lost everything due to abuse," she added.

Anyone who wants to donate can contact Foyle Women's Aid on 028 7141 6800.
