The funeral of a "wonderful" Coleraine woman who was killed in a freak tragedy last week has taken place.

Jill Elder from Kilrea, Co Londonderry, died at Railway Place car park last Friday night.

It is understood that the 43-year-old came out of the town's train station and fell over as she walked in the car park.

A vehicle ran over her as she lay unconscious.

Emergency services cordoned off the scene as attempts were made to rescue Ms Elder, who had become trapped underneath the car.

Police confirmed her death on Saturday morning.

Mourners gathered at her home yesterday for the funeral service followed by burial in Kilrea cemetery.

Ms Elder, who was not married and had no children, was thought to have only recently returned to the area following a period of living and working in London.

It is understood a number of her friends in London gathered earlier this week in the north of the city to remember Ms Elder.

Many of her friends took to social media to pay tribute saying that she would be missed by all.

One friend posted on Facebook: "(Jill was) a wonderful woman who was so full of life and love for all."

She is survived by her mother, Sylvia, partner Trevor, brother Shane, sister-in-law Fiona and nieces Emma and Sarah.

PSNI Inspector Colin Reeves appealed for anyone who was in the car park around the time and who witnessed the incident to contact police to help them with their enquiries.
