World Book Day 2016: From Harry Potter to Wally to the Gruffalo - Your pictures

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Matilda, Alice In Wonderland and the ever elusive Wally were all seen roaming around school corridors today as young and old celebrated their favourite literary characters for World Book Day.

Today across the globe saw the culmination of arduous costume preparation as parents, teachers and young people were on a quest to find the perfect costume to do their character justice.

Some opted for the traditional with pirate or princess outfits and will pay homage to classic characters such as Little Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland and the many many characters created by Roald Dahl.

Whereas others will be slightly more adventurous dressing up in modern hits such as The Gruffalo or Fantastic Mr Fox and of course no day of literary celebration would be complete without Harry Potter.

Forgot to make a costume for the kids on world book day, so they're going to school as pages 89 & 165 of the Argos catalogue.
