World record as 100 horses plough field

A groundbreaking world record has been set in the fields around Armagh as 100 horses ploughed a field at the same time.

The new record was set at the 100th Mullahead ploughing match when 50 sets of draught horses were timed ploughing a field on the Richardson Estate, close to Portadown.

Kenny Gracey, who chairs the Mullahead Ploughing Society said: "We've always claimed over the past couple of years that we have a world spectacle."

He said the highest number of horses the group had got to plough simultaneously before their record breaker was 60.

"This year being our centenary, we thought we would go for 100 horses," he added.

Teams from all over Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man took part in the event.´
