'WWII shell' at Belfast's Harbour Estate just a piece of metal

It was all a bit Dad's Army at Belfast's Harbour Estate yesterday when yet another security alert was sparked off by reports that a Second World War bomb had been uncovered by contractors working at Montgomery Road.

The contractors, who were installing lighting posts, mentioned it to the Harbour police who duly reported its concerns to the Army and the area was sealed off for two hours.

An Ammunition Technical Officer then revealed the 'bomb' was actually a piece of old metal.
