Young children escape injury in 'suspicious' Northern Ireland house fire

A family including two young children escaped injury in a house fire in Northern Ireland that police are treating as suspicious.

The fire broke out at around 3.45am on Friday in the Killaire Wood Lane area of Bangor.

A man, woman and two young children were inside the property at the time. They were not injured.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police and NIFRS attended and the fire was extinguished. Damage was caused to the back door of the property.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact them in Bangor Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 240 of 20/04/18.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
