A young family have escaped injury following a pipe bomb attack on their Co Londonderry home.

Two adults and three children narrowly avoided being seriously hurt in the bomb attack.

The device exploded at around 1am on Tuesday morning in the Castle Park area of Tobermore.

Windows were smashed during the attack, with a nearby property also suffering some damage.

UUP MLA Sandra Overend condemned those responsible.

"Distress was also caused to neighbouring families and obviously I hope that all those affected make a full recovery as quickly as possible," she said.

"Somebody out there knows who is responsible for this terrible act, and I would appeal to them to pass any information they have to the PSNI so that the culprits can be brought before the courts."

The SDLP's Patsy McGlone said the pipe bomb was a "callous, reckless attack on a family home in a quiet village".
