Young GAA star back on his feet after near-fatal car crash
Odhran McKenna will be celebrating St Patrick's Day at home... something his delighted family and friends didn't believe was possible.
The 17-year-old left hospital yesterday, some three weeks after being left critically injured after his car hit a tree on the Killead Road not far from his Crumlin home. But the young GAA star has made a remarkable recovery, and Tyrone football boss Mickey Harte was a delighted witness as a smiling Odhran set off from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
A statement posted by Naomh Eoin Clg for the family read: "Odhran has been released from hospital today to continue his recovery at home. The turnaround in three weeks has been unbelievable. We would like to again thank everyone involved in getting Odhran back to us.
"From the paramedics, doctors and firefighters who cared for him at the scene, the doctors and nursing staff in A&E, RVH ICU and ward 4F to the medical staff in Musgrave RABIU.
"We would also like to thank our families, Naomh Eoin family, Antrim County Board and the many, many clubs who gave their support.
"Lastly, but by no means least, to everyone across the globe who prayed for Odhran and sent cards we will be forever grateful.
"Thank you all from us and Odhran."
