A pensioner has been airlifted from an island accessed by the world famous Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge after falling and breaking her ankle.
The woman (68) was removed from the island by a Royal Navy helicopter tasked from HMS Gannet in Prestwick, Scotland, after she was unable to cross the bridge back to the mainland.
She was then removed to Causeway Hospital in Coleraine where she was treated for her injuries and shock.
A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the woman was a visitor to the area.
“RAF Rescue Helicopter R177 evacuated the casualty to Causeway Hospital arriving at 11.12am. Coleraine Coastguard Rescue Team attended the landing site at the hospital to assist.”
