Police constable faces drugs possession charge

A police constable has denied possessing class A drugs ecstasy and cocaine.

Constable Steven Walton (40), whose address was given as C/O Lisnasharragh PSNI station, pleaded not guilty yesterday to the charges that he possessed the drugs on August 24 last year.

Following the officer’s denials at Belfast Crown Court, defence lawyer Mark Farrell said there would be various applications in the case before it comes to a potential trial.

Prosecuting lawyer Ian Tannahill told the court the issues of disclosure were being addressed by personnel within the PPS and Walton was released on continuing bail with the case adjourned until next month when it is listed for review.
