Assistant replaces Naomi Long as MLA

Naomi Long’s research assistant has replaced her as East Belfast Assembly Member following her shock Westminster election win last month.

Chris Lyttle (29), who worked at the former Lord Mayor’s office, was last night co-opted to replace Mrs Long by the Alliance Party Association.

Mrs Long (right) has been an MLA for East Belfast since 2003, after becoming a city councillor in 2001. She relinquished her Assembly seat after sensationally ousting East Belfast veteran, First Minister Peter Robinson.

Mr Lyttle was born and raised in East Belfast and educated at Queen’s University Belfast and Harvard University.

He said: “It is a great honour for me to have been selected to serve the people of East Belfast in the Assembly.”

Mrs Long said: “I am delighted that Chris has been selected as Alliance Party MLA for East Belfast. His selection reflects his ability and he has worked hard for people in this constituency.”
