The DUP’s Graham Warke is the new Mayor of Derry City and Strabane.

Newbuildings man Mr Warke, who was previously deputy mayor, has been a councillor for the Faughan district since 2015.

He replaces SDLP councillor Brian Tierney.

When selected last month, Mr Warke said it was an immense honour to have been chosen by his party for the top role.

“I look forward to serving all of the people of Londonderry and Strabane during my term in office,” Mr Warke said.

“I want to thank my colleagues for putting their trust in me to hold this position, especially as this is the Northern Ireland Centenary year.”

Sinn Fein councillor Christopher Jackson is the new Deputy Mayor. “I’m honoured to take up the role as Deputy Mayor representing the people of Derry and Strabane and the Waterside which I am proud to represent,” he said.
