Ex-UTV man Mike Nesbitt vies for Iris Robinson seat

Former television presenter Mike Nesbitt could be the next Ulster Unionist Party candidate for Strangford in the upcoming General Election.

Mr Nesbitt, who was previously a UTV presenter, was interviewed at the party headquarters yesterday afternoon.

He is one of three candidates the UUP are considering to stand in the constituency.

Mr Nesbitt is currently one of Northern Ireland's Victims' Commissioners and is married to UTV presenter Lynda Bryans.

The UUP also interviewed a retired Army officer, Colin Heron, and a former councillor, Philip Smith.

The seat was previously held by the former DUP MP Iris Robinson.

After selecting candidates, however, the final decision on who will stand for the party will be taken by a selection committee.
