Police to examine allegations made against Bercow

By Shaun Connolly

An allegation of misconduct in public office against Commons Speaker John Bercow is being "assessed" by police.

The move comes as John Bercow is embroiled in controversy over bullying claims and allegations he called Commons leader Andrea Leadsom a "stupid woman" and "f****** useless".

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "On Thursday, May 3, police received an allegation of misconduct in public office alleged to have taken place at the Palace of Westminster. The allegation is currently being assessed."

A spokeswoman for the Speaker's Office said: "We haven't had any communication from the police. If we are contacted by the police we will talk to the police."
