Post-G8 conference hopes

An international business conference could be staged in Northern Ireland following the G8 summit in June, it has emerged.

Stormont politicians have said they hope David Cameron can convince world leaders to commit to sending trade delegations, boosting efforts to attract jobs from overseas.

Economy Minister Arlene Foster said she is “optimistic” the conference will take place. “It is really to take the opportunity which the G8 has presented to us,” she said.

“We are having the leaders of the world coming to Fermanagh in June and we want to continue with that in the autumn time.”

It is understood the conference could be held in October.

In May 2008, a major investment conference in Northern Ireland had almost 100 companies from the United States attending.
