SDLP deputy loses committee position

SDLP's Dolores Kelly has been dismissed from a key Stormont committee.

The party's deputy leader has been removed from the position of vice chairperson of the Assembly Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ms Kelly was asked several weeks ago by SDLP leader, Alasdair McDonnell, if she wanted to move and she said she would consider it.

Last week, Ms Kelly was asked to sign a letter of resignation from the post but she refused.

Sources claim the unsigned letter was then handed to Assembly authorities on Friday and it was announced in the chamber that she had left the vice chair post.

Sources close to the Upper Bann MLA say she is "furious" over the decision to remove her from the committee.
