Stormont Diary: House on the Hill to delve deep into Assembly life

By David Young

If you just can't get enough of our politicians, a new documentary offers a chance to spend some more time in their company.

But House on the Hill, which begins on BBC One tonight at 10.35pm, delves deeper into life in Parliament Buildings.

A camera crew shadowed staff involved in all facets of Assembly life for the fly-on-the-wall production.

So while viewers will follow MLAs from across the parties, those who keep the Assembly ticking over behind the scenes are also prominent.

The programme-makers met canteen staff, Hansard record keepers, communications experts, plus officials involved in staging events that help open up the venue to the public.

For politics junkies, however, the series does tap in to the political action up on the hill when parties were implementing the Hillsborough deal and the devolution of policing and justice powers.
