Police have not yet ruled out criminal proceedings as they investigate the death of a baby struck by a falling lamppost, an inquest heard yesterday.
Tommy Hollis died just short of his first birthday after he was fatally injured when the lamppost fell on to his pram.
The child was being pushed by his nanny when the lamppost fell onto another woman immediately in front of them.
The lamppost then collapsed directly on to Tommy, West London Coroner's Court was told.
The incident took place at the site of an ongoing road re-widening scheme in Chiswick, west London, on February 23.
The baby was rushed to hospital but died two days later of a head injury, the court heard.
His death in being investigated jointly by police and the Health and Safety Executive.
Detective Inspector Sheila Stewart from the Met said it was still too early in the investigation to say if a report of the death would be forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service
The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
