A 54-year-year woman has died after she was hit by a getaway car fleeing the scene of a robbery in south Dublin.

A second woman also struck by the car is being treated in hospital for her injuries.

Gardai said a number of men entered a shop on Barnhill Road, in Dalkey, at around 9.20pm on Tuesday.

It is understood the men threatened staff before making off with a sum of cash.

They left the scene in a car that that struck the two women moments later at the junction of Ballinclea Road and Avondale Road in Killiney.

The men abandoned the car at the scene of the collision and fled on foot.

Gardai in Dun Laoghaire are appealing for witnesses following the collision.

The other woman, aged 51, remains in St Vincent’s University Hospital for treatment.

Her injures are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardai have asked for witnesses, particularly those who might have camera footage.
