80-year-old killed in Cork accident

An elderly pedestrian has died in hospital after he was struck by a car.

The 80-year-old man was hit as he crossed the road at Dromahane Cross, Dromahane, Co Cork at about 9.30pm on Saturday night.

The man was removed by ambulance from the scene to Cork University Hospital, where he died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A Garda spokesman said the collision is under investigation.

Elsewhere gardai in Gorey are investigating a suspected arson attack on a GoSafe speed camera van on the old N11 road.

The van was extensively damaged in a blaze, which is believed to have been started deliberately at 7.30pm on Sunday.

The van was parked approximately 1km south of Arklow on the Gorey Road, the old N11.

No one was injured in the incident.
