Anti-drug TD’s son found with cannabis

THE son of Sinn Fein TD and anti-drugs campaigner Martin Ferris appeared in court yesterday accused of having a “tiny amount” of cannabis in his possession.

Cianan Ferris (27), of The Village, Ardfert, Co Kerry, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis contrary to Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act at the Abbey car park in Tralee on August 22, 2010, during the Rose of Tralee Festival.

The defendant's father is Kerry North/West Limerick TD Martin Ferris, who has been a lifelong campaigner against illegal drugs and also campaigned for the closure of so-called head shops.

The former IRA Army Council member said he was disappointed with his son's behaviour.

Cianan Ferris was served the Probation Act provided he pays €500 to the court poor box.
