Arrests after Limerick car shot at

Two men have been arrested after gardai opened fire when a car failed to stop for them.

Two patrol cars were damaged when they were rammed, trying to stop a suspect vehicle in Limerick.

One Garda officer was injured in the incident at the Dooradoyle Road in the city at around 4.30pm, the force said.

He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Gardai said they discharged a number of shots. The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission has been notified.

Two men - one aged in his late 20s, the other in his mid 30s - were arrested. Both are being questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. They are being held at Henry Street and Roxboro Road Garda stations.

The scene at Dooradoyle Road was sealed off for technical examination.
