Big trout in Galway is catch of centuries

The largest trout ever claimed to have been caught in Galway’s Lough Corrib weighed a whopping 25lbs 2oz beating a record held since the 1800s.

Visiting Welsh fisherman Ceri Jones, on the third day of his three week trip to Ireland, hooked the catch of the day which he said beats the previous record by more than 3lbs.

"This is the biggest ever trout caught, it only has to beat the Irish record of one at 26lbs which was caught in Lough Ennell (in County Westmeath) in the 1800s,” he told the BBC following Saturday’s record catch.

Mr Jones remains convinced there could be an even bigger fish out there and is determined to beat his own record. "I wonder if there is a bigger one out there,” he said.
