Big Wheel rolls into Dublin

Dublin's answer to the London Eye finally moved yesterday afternoon.

Up to 100 people were queuing patiently outside the O2 at 11.30am to experience the attraction.

It was was due to launch on Saturday but couldn't because parts and tools required to complete it were left in Amsterdam.

The new deadline was set to midday yesterday but strenuous safety checks meant that it wasn't until slightly after 2pm that Harry Small (8), his sister Ruby (3) and his father Peter, from Clontarf, were given the VIP capsule for being first in line.

"It was great, the best thing I've been on. I saw the Aviva stadium, Croke Park and the ships. It was great, it was like being in a car," Harry added.

The Dublin wheel is just one of nine around the world and the only one currently operating in Ireland.

Taking 13 minutes for one rotation, it has 42 capsules, including one VIP pod that boasts a glass floor, leather seats and a television, with champagne optional.

The Dublin Wheel is open 10am to 10pm weekly, with an extended closing time of 11.30pm in the event of a concert in the O2 arena.
