Biker killed in collision with car

A 31-year-old motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a car.

The accident happened at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night on the Kilumney to Crossbarry road at Gurranes, Innishannon, Co Cork.

The biker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators in Cork have appealed for witnesses and the road remained closed to traffic on Wednesday morning pending a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardai said 89 people have been killed so far this year on Irish roads, including eight motorcyclists.
