Blaze deaths probe man released

A man questioned by detectives investigating the deaths of a young woman and a child in a house fire has been released.

Helena O'Dwyer, 25, and her nephew Ryan, five, died after being trapped inside the terraced house at Nutley Avenue in Mahon, Cork, on Sunday morning.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Cork and held on suspicion of arson.

A Garda spokeswoman said the man was released without charge.

"Investigations are ongoing," she added.

Six other members of the O'Dwyer family, including three other young children, escaped the outbreak which was detected at around 3.15am.

Those who fled the blaze included a 54-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, a four-year-old boy and two girls, aged five and two.
