Irish Coast Guard personnel have found a body in the search for a missing holiday-maker in north Donegal.

Tony Griffiths, from Culmore in Derry, had been missing for three days.

He had been camping near the Isle of Doagh in Inishowen.

A body was spotted by the Sligo 118 Coast Guard helicopter just after 3pm on rocks close to the Five Finger Strand.

The body is yet to be identifed. The remains have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for a post mortem and formal identification.

Mr Griffiths, 59, had been camping on Doagh Island with at least one family member.

But on Tuesday morning he was no longer there, and when he failed to turn up by 6pm the alarm was raised.

Inspector David Murphy from Buncrana said: "The family came to the Isle of Doagh area on Monday to camp. They pitched a tent and I understand that around midnight the family turned in for the night.

"In the morning it was discovered Tony wasn't in the locality and hasn't been seen since."

The stretch of water surrounding Doagh Island at Trawbreaga Bay is notorious for dangerous undercurrents.
